Vinyl shutters do a pretty good job of simulating the wood look of traditional shutters and the cost is less than other exterior window materials. Vinyl shutters are a great alternative for a home owner strapped for cash, but who would like to add curb appeal and value to their home.

Vinyl has come a long way from its earlier introduction and with the advent of new composite materials, exterior vinyl shutters last much longer than in previous years. They are much more durable and capable of withstanding harsh weather, where wooden shutters eventually will get damaged and begin to crack and peel or the paint will fade.

The maintenance alone is worth purchasing vinyl shutters. They are easier to clean and maintain than wooden shutters; with vinyl all a home owner needs is a moist rag to wipe the shutters clean. Plus, home owners won’t have to seal and paint the shutters like they would if they bought wood shutters.

Vinyl shutters can withstand moisture and humidity and maintain their shape, making them perfect in areas next to pools, hot tubs or beaches. Wooden shutters will swell and warp in any moist atmosphere and will need to be replaced more often than vinyl shutters.

About the only disadvantages to purchasing vinyl shutters is a home owner won’t be able to treat them like wood shutters; the vinyl designs won’t allow staining, which means they won’t be able to match the color of any outdoor furniture or trim and the vinyl shutters are not functional.

Trends are short lived and it is that time again that housing trends are changing and living room design is coming around again to something new. Although in recent years green became a very important color to homeowners the world over as it became the symbol of saving the planet . However, many designers have thought for a while that green does not look good on blinds and last years color of choice for window treatments was red. This year, like many other things, it changes once again. Here are some of the newest and best trends for Summer 2010.

The color of the season is blue. Light blue on light flowing floor length drapes in particular is very popular right now for full length windows. For windows that are a little smaller you will need a smaller blind. Custom made metallic blue blinds are nice, but may not mesh well with the decorations you have. If this is the case, look for natural color blinds using bamboo or wood blinds as the base. This will liven up the room you are decorating without bringing too many new colors into the room.

Glamor and risk taking are in right now. Doing something that you haven’t tried yet is nice. While some designers are longing for the old days and old designs, fashion is moving on and new designs are taking off. Don’t go for anything classic or that feels classic. Traditional styles are ok, but they aren’t very fashionable. Try being bold by layering two different colors of sheer window blinds together and see how they flow in the summer breeze. If you need more privacy than that, make one of them black out blinds and the other a sheer to still play with color and light, while retaining your privacy.

Entertaining at home has become extremely common and popular in recent years and when considered in context to the economic downfalls, it has also become a great way to save money while spending time with family and friends. Recognizing this new and likely ongoing and progressive trend it is great to know that there are now more options for backyard kitchen features as well as sports and entertainment options than ever before. They are also more diverse and suited to a great spectrum of budgets and lifestyles. And while they are a frequent aspect of new home building designs they are also becoming more and more added to already existing homes and are a major aspect of backyard overhauling and landscape changes.

In the past it has been common to consider these backyard fire magic grills and kitchen counter tops with built in appliances and great accessories as luxury items, which really had no connection to daily lifestyles or household needs. However, as it can be clearly demonstrated in recent years, the outdoor kitchen elements are great not only for major entertainment events such as holiday, anniversary and birthday parties but they also encourage greater outdoor activities among teenagers and other family members.

It has become more common for students to return home from school and grab a snack from the outdoor refrigerator before settling down to complete some homework. It is also a great way to spend an evening with the family by grilling in the backyard and then play a game of volleyball, table tennis, badminton, or other outdoor games. Therefore it is obvious that by investing in these great outdoor kitchen elements you are not only adding value to your home property your are adding quality time for your family and are likely going to form greater connections and communications between household members.

In every business there comes a time when a conflict will arise, either between co-workers or between staff and customers and clients.  In the 1970′s two psychiatrists came up with ways of defining how different people handled conflicts and uncomfortable situations.  The two men were Ralph Kilmann and Kenneth Thomas, and they made conclusions regarding peoples’ overall personality types, and the way that they handle difficult times.  At Next Day Blinds, issues regarding customer service never occur, but let’s face it, it is not possible to please all people–all of the time.  Some times people are just grumpy, and learning how to turn these situations around is an art form that will securely place your business at the top.  Different styles are most effective when used for situations that are best solved in this “personality theory“.  The styles are Competitive, Collaborative, Compromising, Accommodating, and Avoiding.

I personally have come across each of these styles of conflict resolution, and some feel so much more healthy than others.  Knowing and training your staff concerning these different styles and educating them in all matters concerning product knowledge, customer service and design, Next Day Blinds has become one of the foremost companies when it is time to decorate or re-decorate your house and your window coverings.  Through many renovations, I have gone to Next Day Blinds for advice on which shades or blinds would be best for the house I am working on at the time.  And each of those time, I have been treated with a warm respect that many businesses seem to lack in modern times.  Knowing what really makes people tick, knowing what makes them satisfied, and what to do when they are not satisfied is something that this company is very good at, and they will continue to be at the head of the line, now and far reaching into the future.

Take time to review some safety tips that will ensure the time you spend relaxing in your hot tub will be worry free and more enjoyable.

Start by always checking that you use an adequate level of sanitizer to keep the hot tub water clear of unhealthy microorganisms. Keep track of the total alkalinity and the pH factor to provide a health balance. Regularly shock the water, this will help the sanitizer’s ability to do its job and control the bacteria with more efficiency. Make sure you have all the cleaning components, chemicals and additives in a dry, cool and well ventilated place that gets no direct sunlight and is well out of the reach of children. Do not mix the chemicals prior to adding them to the hot tub water.

It’s a good idea, and a bit more stimulating, if you do not sit in a hot tub for too long. Relaxing in a too-high temperature will raise your body’s temperature to a dangerous level. The most the water temperature should be is at 100 degrees to 102 degrees Fahrenheit and for only 15 minutes, which is the recommendation of medical authorities. If hot tubs don’t have a digital temperature indicator, then purchase a floating thermometer. If children are involved, the temperature and time should be reduced. Many medicines stop functioning at certain body temperatures, so for very young children with medical conditions, as well as adults with medical conditions, you should first make sure their doctors approve of time relaxing in hot tub. This can’t be stressed enough, children should never be unsupervised around hot tubs, even if the covers on, children are way too curious and a hot tub will peak a child’s curiosity. Hot tub covers should always be used when the hot tub is not in use and should have a locking device.

Electricity and water don’t mix. All the electrical devices and outlets should be located at a safe distance from the hot tub. Never have electricity at the edge of the hot tub. Don’t even handle a telephone or a corded appliance in the hot tub, or out of the hot tub and you’re still wet.

Heads should never go under the water. Safety standards were developed requiring hot tubs to have drain outlets and drain covers that will prevent hair entanglement in the drain itself. But, even with this safety measure, it’s important to adhere to a rule that no heads go underwater while enjoying the hot tub. No where your power disconnect device is installed and know how to use it just in case of an emergency.  Consider using a non-slip surface around the hot tub and keep dry towels with in reaching distance. Keep good maintenance with any steps leading to the hot tub and install handrails, these will help prevent a fall or aid in a misstep when entering or exiting the hot tub. Finally, if you use the hot tub at night, which most people do, install an adequate amount of lighting at ground level.  Safety enables everyone to enjoy the pleasurable benefits of a hot tub.

If your house is anything like mine, you probably have an extensive collection of map gifts lying around various rooms and stuffed in closets that you just do not know what to do.  Before you throw them in a box for the Goodwill or toss them into the attic, consider these alternatives.

A world globe may seem like another big bulky decoration that you don’t really have space for, especially if it is on a stand, but it can really give your home a rich, classy feel.  If you have a home office or library, consider using it as a sophisticated decoration piece on top of a bookshelf or next to the desk.  It will also come in handy when your children begin to study geography because globes present the position and size of each continent more accurately than world map.  It will also help them better understand concepts such as longitude and latitude and where the equator and prime meridian are located. Nice framed maps of the world or specific countries provide nice decoration as well.  Everyone loves to share their travel experiences, so you could frame maps of countries and cities that you have, or want to, visit as a conversation starter.

If you really can’t find space to keep it in your home, consider donating it to a local school.  Most teachers have a little to no budget when it comes to classroom decoration, so they would be very grateful for any contribution you are able to make.

As our society becomes more and more globalized, it is becoming increasingly important to know and understand geography.  Having world maps in your home will not only help you maintain familiarity with each country and their location, but also relay to your children that importance as well.

The slow housing market has many people thinking twice before putting their house up for sale.  Instead, many people are choosing to remodel or update their current home rather than relocate.  Before you begin any project, it is important to contact a contractor. It may seem unnecessary for products such as blinds (http://www.nextdayblinds.com), but it will be worth it in the long run.  Even if you are a “do-it-yourselfer”, most companies prefer to install their own products.  Not only are they more familiar and extensively trained on the installation of their product but it is often a stipulation in the warranty.  Although it may cost a little more, you don’t want to have to call Next Day Blinds customer service department because you accidently damaged your new Next Day Blinds trying to install them yourself.

Although many companies will provide installation services for their products, what about the larger projects?  How do you choose a contractor for the move in-depth work?  Often you can stop by your local home improvements store.  They may have contractors that could do the job or else provide recommendations on where to find a contractor who can.  Also websites such as the Better Business Bureau can provide a list of contractors in your area.

It is a good idea, once you have found a few potential contractors, to get estimates from each.  There are also a few questions and things to watch before deciding who you are going to hire. One of the first things to check when considering a contractor is if they are properly licensed for the work you want to have done.  Secondly, obtain and check references.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions of the both the contractor and their references. Third, carefully read all paperwork.  All projects should be priced individually, as well as the materials list.  Last, be sure that they have all the proper insurance.  Regardless of what type of work you are having done, paying attention to all of these things will help ensure that all the work gets completed in a timely manner and it is of the quality you paid for.

I have been experience a lot of back and shoulder pain and tension lately. The changes at work have been tough lately. A lot of lay offs, rearranging of the work force and re tooling the line. Everyone is so stressed out I think they are going to crack. I certainly hope the economy picks up soon cause I don’t think we can take too much more of this too much longer with out everyone blowing up.

I have been looking into ways in which I can manage to this stress better. Working out and learning some yoga have helped out a lot but I still have the sore neck and back. I was doing some research on hot tubs and spas and what I was finding out seems to be what I am looking for.

Soaking in a hot tub or spa, also known as hydrotherapy, has many health benefits for a person. Simply soaking in hot water is helpful to the body. The heat dilates the blood vessels and thus increases blood circulation. This helps the body in elimination of toxins which are stressful to the body. Also soaking in a hot tub the action of the jest messaging sore muscles and joints can release the tension in the muscles and therefore release the pain in the joints and musculature there.

Deciding to do this now it is time to prepare a place of the hot tub to be installed. On the back of the house is a large covered porch. Right out the Acadia door would be the perfect place for the hot tub. With easy access in and out of the house so I don’t have to go too far in the cold weather. I will be easy to run the necessary electrical line to that spot of the porch. The only challenge will be the plumbing. Not really my ball of wax so I will contact my plumber friend to take a look and see what the solution to this will be.
