It is a safe assessment, that no one who begins using heroin has the desire to become addicted to it. There is a plethora of information available, that outlines and details what one may expect from a life of heroin addiction, and non of that information would lead one to believe that a life like that would be worth living. But, people become addicted to various substances like drug and alcohol for many different reasons. As is witnessed in centers for
drug rehab Malibu Beach and other quiet towns in which centers for treatment exist, patients go through extensive therapy and attempt to discover just what caused that addiction in themselves.
As with any addiction, the addiction to heroin gradually takes away bits and pieces of the individual, until what is left is someone they themselves do not even recognize anymore. Changes in sleep and eating patterns happen quite immediately, as well as changes in the persons’ need for companionship and sexual relationships. It is often said that heroin is a partnership addiction. But one of the sad truths is that gradually, the intimacy between the partners using the drug, fades away, and their only connection with each other, is using.
Many former addicts have reported that in the beginning stages of using the drug, sexual relations are still attempted, however as time goes by each partner becomes more and more dissatisfied. There is also a desire to consciously choose to not enjoy sexual interaction as this has been reported in some addicts, to lessen the enjoyable effects that heroin produces, it ruins the high. Which to some who have never suffered from an addiction, this may be quite a contradictory and unbelievable statement to wrap one’s head around. It is as though they are trading was is better than using, for using.
This happens all over the country, from the Western coast of California to the Eastern coast of New England. Connecticut drug rehabilitation staff work with people from all walks of life, put themselves back together again. The return to a healthy state of being, healthy frame of mind and healthy outlook on sexual relationships has a lot to do with the length of time an individual was using, how much they were using on a day to day basis, and the age in which they first started to use.
When people begin to use drugs at an early age, any drugs including alcohol, they have not yet formed who they are going to become. When a person becomes who they become, while being addicted to heroin, they must in a way, go back and learn a new way of life, completely from the beginning. Once they are clean, they may have no reference of what healthy really means. This is why stopping teen age drug addiction is so very important. Stopping all drug addiction is important, but it seems that when adults get clean and sober, from years of using as adults, they often times still have their frame of reference. But again, it is the length of time and the amount of daily usage that will give a person, an addict or a therapist, an idea of what to expect from and what to put into the road to recovery, and the road to a better future.
