When we consider the importance of educational resources and learning programs, we almost always think of our children or the youth population in general. And this applies to small children as well as young adults entering into college. However, what about the rest of us, the majority of the population that seems to no longer matter to the world of academia and learning. Unless of course, we happen to be professionals in the field, but even then the focus is on educating the student, the instructor is supposed to know it all already. As if the notion of learning or the amount of knowledge out there is finite. In fact the opposite is true, and the best goal for any individual would be to pursue new interests, mental enhancements and learning opportunities throughout life. As cliche as it might sound, learning is a lifestyle, it’s the journey, not the destination.
Interestingly, it is commonly recognized and accepted that potential marriage partners should consider similar virtues, morals perspectives on child raising and life ambitions. People go into remarriage counseling to ensure compatibility in temperament, religion, family values and other belief systems, however, almost no-one considers the importance of mutual perspectives on continued growth. In fact, to many people it sounds silly to even consider the subject. Meanwhile, it’s common and even important to acknowledge health care, medical needs and corresponding lifestyle choices. Why should it be any different to consider the going well being of our minds? This of course directly connects to our overall sense of well being and happiness.
With this in mind, it makes perfect sense that choosing a partner with a similar focus on mental activities, ongoing brain enhancement and growth projects should be a mutual priority. It’s not enough to simply assume that since your partner is well educated they will be interested in lifelong learning. In fact, many people think that after they receive their college degree they are finished learning. That’s an unfortunate but common perspective and it ignores the importance of keeping one’s brain in shape. There are various ways to do this while it might sound tedious or like it’s too much effort, there are actually some simple techniques and easy adjustments that can prolong your mental sharpness and keep your brain in shape. Even something as fun and simple as a daily crossword puzzle or other mind game challenge can have a major impact. And if you’re a newcomer to these puzzles, pick up a crossword solver , get some practice and you’ll be addicted in no time. This is one of those positive obsessions couples can share and there are numerous others.
