There is something about a place that’s had so much history, especially in regard to entertainment, that it almost becomes hard to contend for a new batch of young and talented kids. The perception is usually that the people with talent would either find their way into the business through force or through connections.
The truth is, however, that the theatre in Las Vegas is of a quality all its own, and talented people can find their way into work that has high artistic merit. There are always going to be city and national pressures for anyone with a little bit of spark to set their sights on any of the more popular Las Vegas shows , and there are plenty of examples of people who can do both.
Being part of the city’s cultural center and the entertainment center simultaneously is not unreasonable. Neither is it unreachable. With a university hosting a world-class theatre department, and its share of small performance spaces, there is room to play for small audiences, as well as room to play for the packed houses. It is difficult to break into either, but pursing both at the same time can be the very lever one needs to make something happen right away.
